I'm no writer, and a lazybum too, so here's a part (and a link to) of NEII's journal on the present situation in China.

To people from different social backgrounds:

Do you agree with situation in China? Do you know all the facts and reports? I bet- no. Why? Because most of the world is silent for fear of loss a political profits and influences.
Break the law of Humans & Animal Rights – you should know about it all;

Do Polaków:

here's a link to her journal as it is, with all the shocking, yet important links and pictures (which i cannot place....)

I agree that China is being really stupid and immoral, as it has always been, and that people should speak up against it.

But boycotting the 2008 Olympics is sheer folly. It won't help solve animal and human rights issues. It would only bring extremely high foreign tensions between China and the rest of the world, which is highly undesirable. I do not understand why people assume the boycott of the Olympics would shame the Chinese into changing their policies. In order to combat the atrocities the Chinese have committed, we need a direct confrontation. Let's ignore the complicated political implications and skip to simpler points. Boycotting the Olympics is not a direct confrontation. We must take into consideration the athletes from both within China and around the world who have worked their entire life towards the ultimate athlete's dream. They are not responsible for human/animal rights violations in their country. The 2008 Olympics impacts the lives of the entire Chinese population, which consists of 1.3 billion people. The entire country is so riled up for the event that they display commercials for it 1.5 years before the actual event. The Olympics, for them, symbolize the greatness of China and their progression. To many citizens in China, the Olympics harbor a sense of achievement greater than they had ever had before.

To take it all away would probably be as crushing as a nation-wide catastrophe. Though the Olympics do have strong political implications, it's absurd to use a sacred long-standing tradition as a 'weapon' to induce China to change its policies. The Olympics of 2008 is just as important as the others and should not be viewed differently just because it is taken place in China. It is a symbol of peace. Instead of considering the Olympics as a political weapon, people combating the state of ethics in China should use more appropriate means to achieve change.

In all, I'm against the idea of boycotting the 2008 Olympics, and I believe that better, more direct ways are necessary to achieve change.
:iconolgg:
well, I'm not saying we should boycott the Olymics (I mean the whole idea of it is good and has nothing to do with the way China acts...)... the point is to somehow show people the current situations and make them do something to stop it.

:iconfaiell:
Yep, that's true.
The root of the problem is that the Chinese themselves have no idea what's going on because of censorship within the country. Even the internet is censored for them. D: It really sucks.

Sorry for my obnoxious rant. xD
My debate topic at school was the same one, so I got carried away. ^^;
:iconolgg:
it's okay ^^'

ps. HOW IN THE WORLD CAN THEY CENSOR THE INTERNET??? @_@

xD
Well, I heard that they control the internet providers in China and don't let people on certain sites? I heard even Youtube got banned a few times.
And I think I saw these weird cartoon police figures that were the 'internet police'.
o.O;;;
:iconolgg:
O_O man. that's what I call SICK!!!!

:iconfaiell:
Haha, yea.
Politically, China is communist.
But economically, it's... not. xD
:iconinpuupuaut:
The fur farms are really sick... And they are not only in China... The big problem is that it is allowed to use fur... If it get banned, nobody will buy it anymore...

About falun dafa and all that... I do not really care too much... I think it is not only Chi Kung as they say... And that is the problem with the government...

And I think all this movement about Olympic games is just a political problem...
